Pre-recorded Lectures and Zoom Workshops

About the course

LABtalks

This is a 10-week, pre-recorded lecture-based course  providing 20 hours of CPD to help nutrition and health practitioners choose and interpret laboratory assessments with confidence, based on the latest available evidence.

Whether you are a student, a newly qualified practitioner or a seasoned professional, staying up to date, reflecting on assumptions and practice trends is important for clinical confidence.

The sessions will be pre-recorded and available to stream throughout the duration of the accompanying live-workshop based course (not included in the purchase of this ticket). In order to obtain CPD certification, all lectures will need to be observed and this will be tracked using the streaming service provider.

The subjects we will cover each week include:

Week 1: Ethical practice and laboratory accreditation - an introduction to the essentials of choosing and prioritising assessments, both private and NHS, including appropriate referrals and effective engagement of GP's and other medical consultants. What is meant by evidence-based interpretation and how does this affect use of private testing?Accreditation of laboratories and selection of companies.

Week 2: Primary assessment of nutritional status and associated states of insufficiency.

Week 3: Endocrine testing - primary hormone profiling for thyroid, prostate, adrenal and reproductive health.

Week 4: Cardiometabolic risk assessment - anthropometric, blood and urinary testing for diabetes and cardiovascular biomarkers.

Week 5: Digestive health assessment - for bowel, pancreatic, gastric (inc. H.Pylori, pernicious anaemia) and liver health.

Week 6: Musculoskeletal and renal health assessment - including auto-immune considerations.

Week 7: Allergy testing and a critical look at intolerance testing.

Week 8: Comprehensive and specific stool testing options.

Week 9: A critical look at intestinal permeability and testing options, alongside breath testing in digestive health (fructose, lactose, SIBO).

Week 10: Organic acid testing: Uses, limitations, cautions, considerations and interpretation.

These sessions will not be available to download but can be watched over and over using streaming which is included in the price of this ticket. All resources are subject to copyright. Sharing any resources without explicit written consent will result in a non-refundable barring of access to remaining and future courses. The course is purchased as a whole and cannot be purchased as individual sessions.

The lectures will be released weekly from February 8th and streaming access will expire on April 5th though permanent access to slides will be offered. It is recommended that you purchase this course in addition to the LABplay course but is not compulsory.

LABplay

This live 8-week course, providing 16 hours CPD,  supports practitioners to use and combine laboratory tests in different clinical case scenarios. The workshops will build upon the foundations within the LABtalks course, to understand how to interpreting and trouble-shooting when a combination of health issues and inconsistencies within test results are apparent.

The slides provided within the LABtalks course will be used as a recurring resource to reinforce the learning already acquired so the package is ideal, providing both LABplay and LABtalks resources combined.

Whether reviewing tests ordered previously by another healthcare practitioner, or offering your own testing suggestions, there is a lot to think about and it is natural that sometimes it is hard to know where to start. This workshop series is designed to make that process feel clearer and more accessible. Context-based prioritisation limits will encourage reflection, discussion and understanding of how and why to decide whether to order one test or another.

Brief, facilitated discussions, with additional supportive resources, will encourage constructive, critical comparisons of different tests and products provided by commonly used laboratories. Considering their strengths and limitations will not only help to prioritise, but also promote reflective practice and consider ethics, quality assurance (eg. laboratory accreditation) and evidence-based practice.

Attendance at all 8 sessions will be required for CPD certification, though if you do miss any sessions, you will be able to catch-up next time the course runs.
